About the Organization

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, MVCHS provides a wide range of services to the Mora Valley area. We offer quality medical, dental and behavioral health services in our clinic. Our home health agency, Caridad de San Antonio, provides adult day services, home care, and personal care.

MVCHS MISSION, VISION AND GOALS:

The mission of Mora Valley Community Health Services, Inc. (MVCHS) is to deliver excellent primary care and other services to Mora residents.

MVCHS envisions a healthy community, whose residents access MVCHS
resources.

The philosophy of the organization is: Les Deseamos Una Vida Buena y Sana, which translates to We wish you a good and wholesome life.

The goals of MVCHS, Inc. are:

To provide primary health care
To assure the continuity of health care
To promote the individuals independence across the life span
To incorporate other wellness services to better meet the total needs of the person
To provide services regardless of a persons ability to pay
To integrate the existing traditional healing arts and practices with the western medical model of health.

OUR VISION: Our organization will sustain and expand current programs and services through the use of traditional healing, supported long-term care and patient-centered medical home care, in order to meet current and future community needs. Through our programs and services we will encourage and promote preventive health care.
About the Community

The Mora Valley is an isolated mountain valley in north-central New Mexico on the eastern slope of the Sangre de Cristo (Rocky) Mountains, and is located east of Taos and northwest of Las Vegas. Today, the population is over 80% Hispanic. Most have lived in Mora for generations. Many of those admirable traits of the early settlers are still predominant in the residents today.

COMMUNITY - Selected Statistics: Population in Mora County (2010 Census): 4,866; 2.5 persons per square mile, qualifying Mora as a "frontier" county; 81% Hispanic; 19% white non-Hispanic and 1% Other. Education (US Census Bureau): high school graduates 83.9%; BA and higher, 18.3%. Poverty level (US Census Bureau): Below 100% = 13.5%; Below 200% = 42%. Insurance (US Census Bureau): In 2007, 24% of the population was uninsured; 19.5% Medicare. Language(US Census Bureau): other than English spoken in the home 61% (Primarily Spanish).
