About the Organization
Meritus Health, a private non-profit, is the parent corporation of Meritus Medical Center and Meritus Medical Group. The health system employs more than 3200 people, operates the only hospital in the county and is the largest healthcare provider in the region.
Meritus Medical Center is a state of the art, 272 bed acute care, private, non-profit medical center serving the tri-state region, including Western Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, and Eastern West Virginia. Designated a Level III Trauma Center, the hospital is served by over 400 physicians, who represent more than 40 specialties. There are currently four centers of excellence within the hospital. One each for Trauma, Joint Replacement, Bariatric Surgery and Cancer. The Stroke Center, while managed by local neurologists, uses telemedicine technology to link with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to assure immediate access to a board certified neurologist 24/7. Meritus Medical Center is also designated a Cardiac Interventional Center. Meritus Medical Centers Wound Center is certified by Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Societys accreditation for the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program.
The Meritus Family Medicine Residency program welcomed its first cohort of 6 Residents in July 2019.
Meritus Medical Group, our for-profit outpatient division, operates a number of business enterprises related to outpatient healthcare: five pharmacies, comprehensive lab service, home medical equipment, 20 physician practices, a corporate health/rehab business, outpatient surgery, and diagnostic imaging. In many of our practices, there are opportunities to mentor medical students, residents, advanced practice nurse students and physician assistants from universities in Maryland and the region.

Hagerstown is a family oriented, friendly community in scenic Western Maryland. Minutes from Civil War Battlefields, C&O Canal, Potomac River, the Appalachian Trail and several ski resorts. We are a great four-season recreational, cultural and historic area! Hagerstown is home to a symphony orchestra and art museum, excellent schools and affordable housing, all part of the lifestyle amenities our community has to offer. If you crave urban adventure, Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD and Harrisburg, PA are only an hour away. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are three hours away; NYC is five hours.

Maryland is the top state in the nation for education for the fourth year in a row. The county school district is very strong and in 2010, our Superintendent was selected National Superintendent of the Year. University System of Maryland offers Bachelor's/Master's degrees in Business, Education, Nursing and other fields with a new program for Doctorate in Education. Kaplan University offers Bachelor's and Associate's degrees as well as professional certificate programs. Hagerstown Community College offers Associate's degrees and professional certificate programs. Other nearby colleges and universities are also available.
