About the Organization
New York State has a large, multi-faceted mental health system that serves more than 700,000 individuals each year.
The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) operates the largest state mental health system in the country with 23 hospitals, 90 clinics, 2 world class research institutes, a secure residential center, and a network of community services. OMH hospitals are all Joint Commission accredited and recognized as among the best mental health systems in the United States. Patients stay as long as needed, treatment is comprehensive, recovery-oriented, and all services are built on principles of effective, measurable, and accountable care.
OMH also regulates, certifies and oversees more than 4,500 programs, which are operated by local governments and nonprofit agencies.
