How is an LTCH different from a traditional hospital or nursing home? LTCHs provide the same level of intensive care as traditional hospitals but specialize in long-term treatment for critically ill patients. At RML, our specialties include ventilator weaning, advanced wound care, stroke rehabilitation, and care for patients with ventricular assist devices (VADs) or recent organ transplants. While a typical hospital stay may last a few days, patients at RML often stay 25 days or longer to receive the focused, ongoing care they need. Unlike nursing homes, LTCHs are not residential facilities and provide 24/7 on-site physician coverage.
