Orlando VA Medical Center
About the Organization
Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS) is a level 1b facility that serves more than 118,000 Veterans in Central Florida. This includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliary (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), one Health Care Center in Viera, one VA Medical Center (Lake Baldwin campus) one large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinic in Daytona Beach, and five Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Deltona, Palm Bay and Tavares. The Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient, inpatient and emergency services. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.
About the Community
“Medical City” is a carefully planned and executed 650-acre health and life science park that includes important partners such as the University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM) and Health Sciences Campus, Nemours Children’s Hospital, the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, University of Florida Academic and Research Center, and the soon to be built Florida Blue Innovation Center and National VA Simulation Center. These partners have joined the OVAMC to create a new medical destination and intellectual hub for research, education, and patient care. This rapidly expanding family friendly community is adjacent to golf courses, lakes, bike trails and in close proximity to theme parks and ocean beaches. In addition, the United States Tennis Association recently unveiled their plans to build a 63-acre USTA Community Tennis and Development Center at Lake Nona.
