Offering master’s and doctoral programs in public health, social work, dietetics and nutrition, and disaster management, the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work explores the interconnectivity of social, biological, environmental and cultural elements of health to be a force for positive change.

Some of the college’s research foci include: neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, HIV/AIDS, health disparities, environmental toxicity, diabetes and obesity interventions, asthma, community based participatory research, public health policy analysis, health economics, health systems analysis, cancer, cardiopulmonary disease, neurodegenerative disease, and the emerging area of “environmental health impacts” (which encompasses emerging health threats such as climate change). Stempel College is home to two Emerging Preeminent Programs: The Brain, Behavior and Environment Program and Health Inequities and Disparities Program.

PUBLIC HEALTH

U.S. News & World Report ranked Stempel College’s School of Public Health for the first time in the college’s history- ranking 50th among public universities. We offer master’s and doctoral programs in Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Promotion & Disease Prevention.

SOCIAL WORK

U.S. News & World Report ranked the School of Social Work 53rd among public universities. The School of Social Work offers a Master of Social Work (MSW), a clinical program that prepares students to become licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), and a doctoral, research-based program in Social Welfare. The school’s cutting-edge curriculum and research foci prepares its graduates for work in governmental, academic, non-profit, and for-profit settings in community, regional, state and national systems.

DIETETICS & NUTRITION

The field of dietetics and nutrition is dynamic and rapidly evolving as more research is elucidated on the relationships between food, nutrition, human health and disease. With a greater emphasis on preventive health care and improved eating habits, the department offers master’s and doctoral programs that provide lab training and community focused research to prepare students for careers in health care systems, home health care, food service, private business, research and educational organizations. Students enrolled in the master’s program in dietetics and nutrition also have an option to enter the fully accredited dietetic internship that helps them prepare to become registered dietitians.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The Academy for International Disaster Preparedness offers degrees in Disaster Management as well as certificate programs for emergency medical technicians, paramedics and drone training for disaster management. The Academy prepares students for rapidly evolving professions with a formal education in emergency response, international humanitarian relief and homeland security. The Academy currently offers a master of arts degree in disaster management in both face to face or online modalities.
