Surgical Technician

A Surgical Technician functions under the direction of a professional Registered Nurse and or Physician to carry out patient care activities according to the mission and philosophy of the Nursing Department. The Surgical Technician is accountable for nursing care activities performed and responsible directly to the Director of Surgical Services. Demonstrates competency in caring for patients of all levels and ages. Takes call and responds in a timely manner.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current LPN by the Board of Licensing and Regulation in the state of Michigan with documentation of same or Certification from the Association of Operating Room Technician/Certified Surgical Technician is required; eligibility to write certification exam within six months may be accepted.
2. 1 year operating room experience in the last three years preferred.
3. CPR required
4. Must have the ability to maintain annual competency in medication administration.
5. Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.

EDUCATION:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing or surgical technology.

Certifed Respiratory Therapist

Under the direction of the Cardiopulmonary Director, provides technical, therapeutic and educational services in regards to treatment, management and diagnostic evaluation of Respiratory disorders. Provides assistance to the Director with coordinating new services, training and scheduling employees, providing education on services provided and assists with day-to-day functions of the department.


QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

1. Associates in Science in Respiratory Care or equivalent required.
2. Experience in Respiratory Care preferred.
3. Nationally Certified/Registered as a Respiratory Therapist required.
4. Licensed in the State of Michigan required.
5. BCLS required.
6. PALS/ACLS required within 6 months.
7. NRP recommended.
8. Basic computer knowledge preferred.
9. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people.
10. Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.
11. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
12. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
13. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
14. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
15. Required lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds.

Certified Nursing Assistant

Under the supervision and delegation of a Registered Nurse or the Licensed Practical Nurse the Certified Nurse Aide assists with nursing care for patients of all ages, participates in-patient and family teaching and works as a member of the nursing team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. CPR required.
2. Accucheck proficiency preferred.
3. Crisis management/restraint training required within forty-five (45) days from date of hire.
4. Must keep patients safe.

EDUCATION:
1. A. High school diploma or GED preferred or proof of status as a student in a school of nursing.
B. Must have a current State of Michigan Registry document or must have successfully completed the State of Michigan approved Certified Nurse Aide Training Program and be eligible to take the State of Michigan Certified Nurse Aide examination to become certified. Testing must be completed within 4 months of hire. Those presently enrolled in an approved school of nursing and have completed Fundamentals of Nursing are also eligible for hire and therefore not required to become certified.

Registered Nurse Med/Surg

JOB SUMMARY:
Coordinates nursing care for patients of all ages, coordinates in patient and family teaching, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel focusing on outcomes in patient care and in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The RN is responsible for the coordination of interdisciplinary functions and manages resources for quality patient care. The Registered Nurse is seen as a role model for exhibiting the Behavioral Standards and Customer Service expectations of War Memorial Hospital.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Currently licensed by the Board of Licensing and Regulation in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse and provides documentation of same.
2. Crosstrained to the specialty area as a C1 or C2 is required within 18 months.
3. BCLS required.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. ACLS required within six (6) months of hire.
2. PALS required within six (6) months of hire.
3. National Certification as a Med/Surg Nurse recommended.
4. Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Medical/Surgical Nursing.
5. Crisis management/restraint training required within forty-five (45) days from date of hire.
6. Must keep patients safe.
