About the Organization
Duke Hospital Medicine Programs includes Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Collectively we have over 70 + premier academic hospitalists that are great clinicians and clinician educators within the Duke Medicine Community.
Duke Hospital Medicine consists of 32 academic hospitalists and is one of the largest clinical and teaching services within the Hospital with over 5,900 discharges in FY 2013. Our primary source of admissions is the Duke Emergency Department. We also accept patients in transfer from regional hospitals throughout North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Duke Regional Hospital is comprised of 31 academic hospitalists who attended to over 9,000 patients in FY2013. The hospitalists take care of patients of primary care physicians who delegate to us from the surrounding Durham area. Additionally there is inpatient consultative work that we do for a variety of specialists. There is an associated intensivist program that handles care in the intensive care unit. The hospitalists also cover the rapid response team, codes (with the intensivist), and an orthopedic pre-assessment clinic.
Duke Raleigh Hospital consists of 18 academic hospitalists who attended to more than 4,000 patients in FY2013 . The hospitalists take care of patients around the surrounding Wake County area. Additionally, they provide overnight coverage to the intensive care unit as well.
