About the Organization

MedLink Georgia, Inc. operates fourteen community focused primary care practices, four pharmacies, and one dental practice in twelve counties in northeast Georgia. A not-for-profit 501(C)(3) corporation, founded in 1976, MedLink is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors selected from the communities where practice sites are located. Each fully staffed center provides services and programs based on particular needs in the community where it is located. All administrative support services are provided through the corporate offices in Colbert. Those services include quality improvement, marketing, human resources, benefits administration, credentialing, billing/collections, payroll, purchasing, and facilities management.
MedLink practices are outpatient and contract with local hospitalist services to provide in-patient care. MedLink Georgia is a federally qualified health center and receives a portion of its operating income through federal grants made by the US Department of Health and Human Services. These grants supplement patient fees; a sliding fee discount on charges is offered to un/underinsured patients based on income and household size in accordance with federal poverty guidelines. Although no one is refused services due to an inability to pay, fees and charges are required in order for centers to operate. Staff members assist patients with applications for a variety of services so that they become an integral part of the continuum of care in a community.

About the Community

MedLink Georgia's fourteen primary care practice sites are located in rural counties in northeast Georgia designated as medically underserved and/or health professional shortage areas and are certified as Patient Centered Medical Home. Northeast Georgia combines a sense of peace and historic preservation along with progress and opportunities for growth. The sites located in the northeast corner of the state (Rabun, White and Habersham) reflect the culture, lifestyle, and traditions of the Blue Ridge Mountains and offer temperate climates, beautiful vistas, and small town values within a two-hour drive of Atlanta. Three MedLink practices are in counties considered more metropolitan than rural ( Gainesville in Hall County, Winder in Barrow County and Monroe in Walton County) and present opportunities to live and work in family oriented smaller communities with easy access to Atlanta and the I-85 corridor. Hart, Franklin, and Elbert counties (Hartwell, Royston, Bowman) offer the advantages of being in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, and just minutes away from the 960 miles of shoreline at Lake Hartwell and less than 2 hours from Atlanta, about 90 minutes from Greenville (SC). The main campus of the University of Georgia (UGA) has a positive influence on Oglethorpe, Madison and Banks counties. The practice sites of Colbert, Oglethorpe and Banks reflect both the rural nature of their location and the diversity of lifestyle, culture and recreation of a major university community.
