Job Description

The Physical Therapist (PT) will diagnose and treat individuals of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Diagnose and manage movement dysfunction and enhance physical and functional abilities through the patient care plan.
Revise treatment plans, as needed, throughout the treatment process.
Timely and accurate documentation.
Restore, maintain, and promote not only optimal physical function but optimal wellness and fitness and optimal quality of life as it relates to movement and health.
Treat patients to prevent the onset, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities that may result from diseases, disorders, conditions, or injuries wherever possible.
Engage in the examination process by taking patient history, conducting case review, performing tests and measure to identify potential and existing problems.
Provide continuing care by implementing interventions (the interactions and procedures used in managing and instructing patients/clients), conducting re-examinations, modifying interventions as necessary to achieve goals and expected outcomes, and developing and implementing a discharge plan.
Advise patient and family about in-home treatment options and exercises. Teach patients how to properly use exercise techniques. Incorporate patient and familys goals into treatment plans.
Maintain current knowledge of community resources.
Works in conjunction with other team professionals to provide patient care and patient and family education.
The PT must assist with quality assurance monitoring and program development.
Must appreciate the cost factors in the routine performance of duties and maximize cost efficiency.
Provide internal/external education to groups as needed.
Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Maintain the expected productivity level that has been conveyed and is expected for the position.
Be involved in marketing activities for the department as necessary.
Ability to effectively communicate with others within the business office, our clinics and with outside contacts (patients, vendors, physicians, etc.).


Compiles information and prepares reports.
Maintains records.
Participates in educational activities.
Regular and in-person attendance as scheduled and required to perform essential job functions.
Follows organizational policies and procedures, including State of Franklin Healthcare Associates Compliance Manual, Code of Ethics and Business Standards, HR Policies and Procedures Manual, Team Member Handbook, OSHA Manual and any other policies or procedures for the job function, department, location or clinic.
Performs other duties as assigned.


Physical Therapy Technicians, Students/Interns in the absence of the department manager.



Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program. Bachelor/Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy.


Must demonstrate competence in services provided. Three years experience in a healthcare setting is desired but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be licensed to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Tennessee.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a medical office environment involving contact with patients, physicians, staff, insurance carriers and other business partners. Occasional local travel between work sites and additional hours, including evening or weekend work, may be necessary. Occasional work outdoors to train patients for maneuverability on uneven surfaces. Department may become loud on occasion during therapy sessions. PT must be able to communicate clearly with patients and staff during these times.

Additional Physical Requirements or Comments:

The PT handles light to heavy materials or patients in the therapy process. Physical demands greater than 25 pounds requires knowledge in the use of appropriate equipment and proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. Kneeling, squatting, bending, climbing, and stooping may be required on occasional to frequent basis. The PT must have close mental, visual, and auditory attention in all phases of patient care.
