Job Description

Essentia Health-St. Marys Children's Hospital and Essentia Health-Duluth Clinics 20+ pediatric specialties in Duluth, MN, provide highly specialized, regional pediatric care close to home. We serve patients and families in Northern Minnesota, Western Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This focus has allowed us to grow our unique services that include neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, a general pediatric unit and emergency department. Essentia Childrens offers a level of expertise not available anywhere else in the Northland.

Essentia offers the regions only Level IIIB NICU, pediatric hospitalist service, PICU, pediatric cancer center (Erick Peter Person Childrens Cancer Center), outpatient pediatric therapy center, inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and a pediatric behavioral health and substance abuse treatment center called Amberwing.

Together with our child life specialists, social workers, neonatal and pediatric nurses, our dedicated team provides the highest quality of care in a friendly and comfortable environment.

St. Mary's Children's Hospital is designated by the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NAHCRI) as a Children's Hospital within a hospital.

PRACTICE SPECIFICS:
Level IIIB NICU with 18 private rooms; average of 330 admissions/year; average daily census is 14 infants
Join 4 MDs, 7 NNPs, and an outstanding nursing staff
24/7 in-house coverage
Well established and collaborative relationship with Level IV NICUs in the Twin Cities are
Strong OB physician and maternal fetal medicine support, including a 24/7 OB Hospitalist model
Pediatric specialists and sub-specialists on staff including oncology/hematology, cardiology, neurology, anesthesia, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Supporting member of NACHRI, committed to excellence in providing health care to children through clinical care, research, training and advocacy
Strong, quality programming including participation in the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) database and quality initiatives
Active Neonatal Transport Team serving MN, WI and MI

Ideal Candidate will have:
Ability to work independently
Experience in NICU preferred
Desired skills include: Intubation, chest tube insertion, NRP, invasive lines, ability to serve as leader of the neonatal transport team

EDUCATION:
Masters degree in nursing
National certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Current licensure as a registered nurse in MN
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in MN
Current certification in NRP
National certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice.

Employee Early Hire Program Specifics/Ideal Candidate:
Experienced and demonstrated Leadership
Currently enrolled in a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program with Neonatology specialty
2 Years of Neonatology experience (Level 3 NICU)
Currently a level 5 NICU nurse
Maintains level 5 in the clinical ladder (Preceptor, Resource, Charge, Transport or go to person for the unit)
Measurable competence/independence on unit
Strong communication skills
Actively seeks out learning opportunities
Dedicated and willing to work long shifts, nights, weekends, holidays
Willing to work Full-time (0.8 or greater FTE at least until independent practice is achieved)
