It is the mission of The William W. Backus Hospital Department of Psychiatric Services to provide the highest quality mental health services to adults residing in eastern Connecticut. The department provides services for a wide range of psychiatric disorders and difficulties including individuals with severe and prolonged mental illness.

Position Summary

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to provide psychiatric services for patients in the outpatient setting.

Essential Functions
Evaluate and manage psychiatric disorders
Coordinate appropriate follow up care, referrals, and case management
Performs crisis intervention and medication management
Develop and implement long and short range treatment plans
Orders and performs diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, and provides patient notification and follow up care
Solicits medical management consult or input when appropriate
Completes all clinical reminders to keep each patient up to date in the system
Work in collaborative practice with Psychiatrist

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and graduate of an accredited program for nurse practitioner (MSN required), including preceptorship
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensed or eligible to be licensed in the State of CT
ANCC Psychiatric Mental Health Board Certification
Knowledge and experience managing psychiatric medications, psychiatric models of care, and community agencies most frequently used in mental health care
