Nurse Practitioner
Epilepsy Center
Full Time: 40 hours
Weekend/Off Shift/Holiday rotation may be required. (Premium differentials offered.)

The neuroscience team is committed to creating an innovative patient centered delivery system that continuously improves quality care. The Advanced Practice (AP) providers are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for this complex population under the direction of the attending epileptologist, along with the neurology residency, and other consultants
Orientation & training is provided to experiences practitioners and recent graduates in lumbar puncture, management of antieplilespy medications, management of patients undergoing routine and long term electroencephalograms (EEG), management of patients admitted to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) for scalp and invasive monitoring, neuroradiology, condition specific physical examination and treatment plans.


Job Summary

Practitioners are responsible for providing quality care through the management of multiple inpatient (EMU) and outpatient epilespy patients. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to; interpretation of diagnostic results, clinical partnering with technologists, nursing and therapy colleagues, dictation, discharge planning and instructions, patient/family education and meetings, assistance with nursing education related to epilepsy.

Neuroscience Advance Practitioners

The Advanced Provider provides direct clinical management of epilepsy patients across the service continuum, including the Emergency Department, Step Down and Critical Care. Collaborative model of care with the attending physician, epilepsy technologists, Registered Nurses, and other members of the health care team.

Qualifications

Graduate of an appropriate accredited Nurse Practitioner (APRN) Program. Current CT APRN license. Federal DEA, and CT Controlled Substance Registration. Neurology experience preferred but not required. ACLS required. Demonstrated ability to positively interact with medical/nursing staff and other members of multidisciplinary team. Strong communication skills. Willingness to learn and demonstrate proficiency in invasive procedure: lumbar puncture.
