The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), a nationally renowned, top-tier medical institution invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Reporting to the Dean at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine the incoming Chair will work collaboratively with Temple Healths leadership to advance the mission, vision, and values of the department and organization. The incoming Chair will be responsible for the overall planning, governance and decision making of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The new Chair will have documented achievement in the clinical, education and research spheres and proven capabilities in strategic planning, faculty development, operations, resource allocation, recruitment, retention and related decision-making. The selected candidate will promote a strong culture of institutional stewardship and collaboration throughout one of the regions top academic health systems, Temple Health. It is strongly preferred that candidates possess prior leadership experience, such as a division/section chief, vice chair or similar role, with demonstrated fiscal and administrative responsibility.

Successful candidates will possess an M.D. with active board certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOto) and credentials that will support a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor are preferred. Candidates with additional pertinent degrees (Ph.D., M.B.A., and M.P.H.) are encouraged to apply. Candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills and strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Lastly, candidates should be active participants in regional and national levels and have the ability to obtain medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

LKSOM, established in 1901, is one of the nations leading medical schools. Each year, the School educates approximately 840 medical students and 140 graduate students. Based on its level of funding from the National Institutes of Health, LKSOM is the second-highest ranked medical school in Philadelphia and the third-highest in Pennsylvania. According to U.S. News & World Report, LKSOM is among the top 10 most-applied-to medical schools in the nation. It is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. It employs 550 full-time and 50 part-time faculty members, in addition to more than 1,000 employees. Each year it admits 210 medical students and approximately 24 graduate students.

Temple has invested heavily in new clinical programs, technology and facilities in recent years. The School of Medicine has also recruited renowned physicians from around the country who have enhanced Temples capacity to expand its clinical mission well beyond its traditional boundaries. This growth and dynamism is transforming Temple from a leading Philadelphia academic medical center into a nationally renowned, top-tier medical institution.
