Mid to Senior Level Physician Scientist

The Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University Health has an extraordinary opportunity for an Associate Professor/Professor on the tenure track to join our flourishing program. Our Division is a center of excellence in respiratory and critical care medicine with an active pulmonary clinical trials program. We are leading researchers in the causes of COPD, adult cystic fibrosis,emphysema, asthma, interventional pulmonology, pulmonary hypertension, sarcidosis, pulmonary fibrosis and acute lung injury. Research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.


- Direct and advance growing subspecialty research program
- Supervise personnel
- Write and submit multiple grant applications
- Write and publish multiple manuscripts
- Serve as Principal Investigator on peer-reviewed grants
- Attain strategic objectives including patient safety, patient and other customer service maintenance and enhancement of public perception and fiscal health
- Provide teaching service to medical students, interns and residents
- Clinical care on outpatient and consult services
- Care of patients in MRICU and CSICU
- Opportunities for further administrative/leadership functions in the ambulatory setting


- Must have an MD, MD/PhD or DO

- Board Certified in both Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine
- Demonstrated experience leading an independent research program
- Demonstrated record in attracting extramural funding
- Experience in an academic setting
