Bariatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner

Oswego Health, a health system based in Oswego, NY, is seeking a full-time bariatric Nurse Practitioner/program coordinator to join its Center for Weight Loss facility in Oswego, New York.
The Nurse Practitioner/program coordinator assists in center development, managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Provide direct patient care in hospital and in office consultations
Collaborate with physicians to provide appropriate direct care interventions
Prescribe pharmaceuticals according patients needs
Consult with internal and external staff to make appropriate referrals
Counsel patients and their families with concern and empathy
Conduct patient follow-up and outreach
Complete daily rounds on inpatient units and obtain patient feedback
Develop and manage projects designed to increase efficiency and improve patient care results
Facilitate and improve the new-patient orientation session and support group
Assist practice manager in the development of internal systems and materials delivery
Works closely with Director of Surgical Services to evaluate and address quality care issues.
Assists Director of Surgical Services in the development of processes and procedures related to the Bariatric Program operational organization.
Actively supports and participates in the health care system Total Quality Management initiative as evidenced by attendance at educational programs, participation in process improvement teams, and/or providing technical assistance for the TQM process.
Masters degree in nursing and current CPR certification
Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license with prescriptive authority and current DEA number
Two years experience in general/colorectal surgery, ambulatory surgery or acute care setting for surgical care
Proven ability to work in a team environment and take lead when appropriate
Ability to communicate technical information to patients of all ages
Excellent clinical management skills
