Cardiac surgery program maintains top rating
Consumer Reports magazine has again given St. Cloud Hospital a top score for heart bypass surgery in its August 2014 issue. No other hospital in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota or Iowa received this recognition. Consumer Reports has previously recognized CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center at St. Cloud Hospital, calling it an all-star heart surgery group for maintaining the top three-star score three years running. Consumer Reports partners with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) to collect and assess data. The STS maintains a comprehensive heart surgery database that derives a composite score from four measures: patient survival rate, complications, surgical technique and the correct use of recommended medications. The STS is an international, not-for-profit organization made up of cardiothoracic specialists dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
