United Hospital, located in downtown St. Paul, Minn., is the largest hospital in the Twin Cities east metro area, providing innovative services and programs, such as the Nasseff Heart Center, United Heart; Vascular Clinic and Vascular Center; neuroscience care through the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute for the treatment of brain aneurisms, Bentson Family Foundation Neurological Intensive Care Unit, Brain Tumor Center and the Nasseff Neuroscience Center; as well as psychiatry, womens health, surgical, rehabilitation and emergency services. Responsibilities

Provide 24/7 inpatient neuro-intensivist coverage at United Hospital
Must be able to problem solve, critically think, assess and care for patients with neurological disorders on the neuro ICU
Assess the symptoms and level of acuity to identify the appropriate patient protocol, the need for consultation, testing, or other appropriate treatments/action
Performs comprehensive neurological exam and develops appropriate patient care plan, in inpatient critical care setting
Provides patients with education regarding diagnosis and treatment. Effective communication with patients, families, staff and hospital
Triage and evaluate patients
Provide appropriate neurologic intensive care and utilize skills in problem solving and critical thinking in dealing with complex patient problems
Identify and provide appropriate disposition of the problem, including treatment, referral, reassurance and counseling
Consults with interdisciplinary team as appropriate
Documents effectively on the patients Excellian chart according to Allina guidelines
Assists with management of patient care
Assesses and interprets physical data, including lab results, imaging results, and utilizing additional diagnostic tools
Communicate as appropriate with primary care providers, specialty providers, and hospital team involved in care of patients
Follow through and resolve service problems promptly and professionally

Education

This position requires a Medical Doctorate degree (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine

Qualification/Skills
Experience

1-2 years of practice as a neuro-intensive care specialist, including experience leading, developing, and providing neuro-ICU services, preferred

Licensure/Certification

Must have current, unrestricted Minnesota State Medical Licensure
Board Certified or Eligible Neuro Critical Care, Critical Care or Pulmonary Critical Care

Work Schedule Additional Position Details

Full time is considered 150 shifts per year. Monthly shift scheduling is flexible. This is a .5 FTE position, with 75 shifts per year required.
