The Boise VA in Boise, Idaho is searching for a staff gastroenterologist. The Boise VA is a medium-sized medical center that offers a wide array of clinical services and trains residents and medical students from the University of Washington. Gastroenterologist (GI) physician will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and selected specialty services for outpatients, inpatients, and nursing home patients. The candidate will provide patient care to veterans in the areas of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in the form of primary care and/or consultative care. Key duties include diagnosis, treatment, and management patients with gastrointestinal diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. The successful candidate will also provide outpatient examinations, consultation services related to GI, management of patients with Hepatitis C with the current treatment regimen, and admission status to the facility, oversee the administration of conscious sedation, perform GI procedures such as EGD (gastroscopy), EGD with Peg, colonoscopies, paracentesis, liver biopsy, and other procedures as appropriate and in-line with your technical skills. Additional duties include attendance at GI team meetings, Medical Service meetings, and meetings with other medical center staff, in addition to service on other committees, participation in quality assurance programs, and assistance with our facility meeting established performance measures in the area of gastroenterology. Responsibilities will extend to chart reviews and coordination with hospitalists regarding patient care issues. The successful candidate will be responsible for documenting patient care data in electronic medical records such as procedure notes, inpatient and outpatient consult notes and, enter new and renewal prescriptions. The position includes extensive interaction with trainees, and we expect the candidate to serve as an integral part of our facility's clinical team serving Veterans and teaching residents, and medical students.
Applicants must have demonstrated truly excellent qualifications in clinical care and education, and be supportive of research. Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology is required. Clinical responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology, as well as performance of general endoscopic procedures. Proficiency and experience performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures is required. Experience in liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic disorders is also required (EUS/ERCP skills are not required).
Candidates must have an MD or DO degree and an unrestricted medical license. Successful candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English. The Boise VA offers a teaching-oriented, academic environment.
