Physician - Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
McKenzie Medical Center, P.C. (http://mckenziemedicalcenter.com/), is a private physician practice that has been successful in McKenzie since 1978. The managing partner, Volker Winkler, M.D. was recruited in 1978 and has built the practice into a progressive practice to serve as a medical home for their patients. They deliver between 300-450 babies per year and the office sees between 400-500 patients per day. Clearly they have developed a large following due to the outstanding care they provide to their patients. The multi-specialty practice employs 6 family practitioners, 1 internist, 1 pediatrician, 1 OB/GYN, 1 general surgeon, 10 family nurse practitioners, 8 physician assistants, and 3 certified nurse mid-wives. The practice enjoys professional management and utilizes Allscripts Pro for their electronic medical record. The practice is progressive and is designed to allow practitioner to practice at the top of their license. I encourage you to look at their website to get a better understanding of the scope of their practice.
This is an ideal practice for a new Med/Ped physician to fully utilize their skills. The outpatient practice is a good mix of pediatrics and adult patients. The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to provide nursery coverage for the level I nursery (300-450 deliveries annually). The successful candidate would add to the hospitalist coverage (average census of 6) currently provided via rotation of the 6 family practitioners and an internist.

With regard to the community, McKenzie is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. We enjoy a small town with good schools, good outdoor recreation opportunities, and fine dining/shopping available in Paris (~15 min.) or Jackson (~45 min.). Being the home of Bethel University gives McKenzie a much more cosmopolitan feel than a typical town of 5,300 people. Due to the university, there are seemingly always athletic and cultural activities to enjoy. (http://www.bethelu.edu/)
