The California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) is recruiting (DSH Coalinga, CA) is accepting applications to fill permanent full time Staff Psychiatrist positions with board certified/board eligible psychiatrists for our Telepsychiatry positions that report and work from DSH- Metropolitan in ( Norwalk,CA). These candidates will be able to work with an extremely interesting and challenging forensic and civilly committed patient population. You will have the opportunity to consult directly with experts in the fields of psychiatry such as Stephen Stahl, MD, PhD and Charles Scott, MD. Job Description:

DSH Coalinga is now accepting applications to fill permanent full time Staff Psychiatrist positions.

These vacancies are for psychiatrists who are interested in working in a position which will be primarily dedicated to the provision of psychiatric care to remote DSH patients via Telepsychiatry. Successful applicants will report to the Chief of Psychiatry or his/her designee. The psychiatrist will need to obtain clinical privileges at all facilities to which Telepsychiatric care is provided.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to, examining and diagnosing forensic psychiatric patients at other DSH facilities via remote video conference, determining the type of psychiatric and general medical treatment needed, reviewing progress of forensic psychiatric patients, prescribing changes in treatment, consulting with supervisory psychiatrist or specialist consultants, participating in staff conferences, completing required medical record documentation, providing relatives with information concerning forensic psychiatric patients, writing reports to courts as required, and testifying, when subpoenaed, regarding forensic psychiatric patients.
Recruitment will be limited to only the most qualified applicants who can meet the minimum privileging requirements at the receiving facility and who possess the minimum qualifications established by CalHR and DSH for the Staff Psychiatrist position will be interviewed.
Preferred experience includes: Good keyboard and computer skills, facile with learning new software, experience with navigating web-based software applications.
