Academic Surgical Oncologist in Coastal NC
New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC), the South East Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) and the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine at Chapel Hill are seeking a BC/BE full-time general surgeon to join the full-time attending staff with a freestanding Residency in General Surgery at NHRMC. He/she will hold a junior level academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Surgery with the Department of Surgery at UNC. Active participation in clinical, educational, research and quality improvement activities through the Department of Surgery with NHRMC, SEAHEC and UNC is required.

New HanoverRegionalMedicalCenter is a 628 bed, Level II Trauma Center providing tertiary care to Southeastern North Carolina and Northeastern South Carolina. The 2008 and 2009 recipient of the Consumer Choice Award recognized NHRMC's highest quality and image in over 250 markets. With the opening of the new Surgical Pavilion in June, '08, 26 new operating rooms at 600 sq. feet each, were designed to accommodate the use of advanced technology including laparoscopic monitors, equipment and the new daVinci Surgical System. The new Women's & Children's Hospital opened in September '08 adding 150 beds in a family centered environment with the regions only PICU and state of the art medical equipment.

The surgeon will join five general surgeons in a general surgery, trauma, surgical critical care, minimally invasive and oncology based practice at NHRMC. Practice will include trauma and critical care coverage at a Level II Trauma Center with 1,900 annual trauma admissions. Additional certification in Surgical Oncology is desired. Acute Care fellowship desirable as well as experience with other general surgical specialties.
