What should you bring to the Career Fair? How should you dress? Should you attend
even if you have two or more years of training ahead of you? Answers to these and
many other frequently asked questions can be found below.
Why attend a CareerMD Career Fair?
Attending a CareerMD Career Fair gives you the opportunity to meet a large number
of employers and explore a wide variety of prospective opportunities in one place,
at one time. This is a FREE event that can help you plan the next stage of your
career as a physician without ever having to travel to far-away job interviews or
play phone-tag with physician employers. Meet dozens of prospective employers in
one convenient location!
Will employers from my specialty be attending the CareerMD Career Fair?
CareerMD Career Fairs are for residents and fellows in all medical specialties and
sub-specialties. Many of the employers attending this event are large healthcare
systems that recruit for numerous facilities in multiple locations. These healthcare
systems recruit and hire physicians across the full spectrum of medical specialties
and sub-specialties. Even if you are in a highly specialized field, there will be
employers at the Career Fair who will want to meet you.
What if I have a year or more of training ahead of me?
CareerMD Career Fairs are for residents and fellows in all stages of training, including
those who have just begun their residencies.
- If you will be completing your training within the next year, these events are an
ideal way to meet a large number of prospective employers and explore a wide range
of opportunities in a single, convenient setting.
- If you have a year or more of training ahead of you, this is the perfect time to
begin planning the next stage of your medical career. Physician employers want to
meet you and get to know you as early as possible in the course of your training,
so that they can have you in mind as vacancies arise. Meeting you now will also
enable them to keep an eye out for specific opportunities that meet your geographic
and other criteria.
- If you will soon complete a residency and begin fellowship training, it is not too
soon for you to speak with employers that recruit for your future sub-specialty.
The more specialized your field, the more important it is for you to become familiar
with employers in your sub-specialty.
What should I bring to the CareerMD Career Fair?
If you choose, you may bring a copy of your CV with you to the CareerMD Career Fair.
Drop it off at the Registration Desk on your way in, and we will include it in the
CV Binder that we prepare for all employers at the event. If you would like to send
your CV ahead of time, you may email it to
PhysicianServices@CareerMD.com or send it by fax to (800) 355-2626.
What if I am an International Medical Graduate and will need a J1 opportunity?
Many of the employers that attend CareerMD Career Fairs have J1 vacancies within
their organizations. Those that don't may be able to put you in touch with other
colleagues or organizations that can hire international medical graduates.
What if I plan to settle in a different part of the country after I complete my
training?
Employers will be coming from all over the country to exhibit at the CareerMD Career
Fair. These employers represent local, regional and national healthcare groups,
practices and organizations. Even if you plan to settle in a different part of the
country after you complete your training, attending the CareerMD Career Fair will
give you the chance to meet with recruiters representing nationwide opportunities.
What is the attire at the event?
The attire is casual. Employers understand that many residents and fellows will
come directly from work in the hospital.
What if I want to attend the event, but can't make it?
If you are unable to attend the event but would like to be in touch with the employers
that will be represented there, you can submit your CV for inclusion in the CV Binder.
Employers can then review your CV and contact you directly even if they were not
able to meet you. You may e-mail your CV to
PhysicianServices@CareerMD.com or send it via fax to (800) 355-2626. Please
indicate any geographic or practice setting preferences you may have.
