About the Organization

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Mora Valley Community Health Services, Inc. (MVCHS) provides a wide range of services to the Mora Valley area. We offer quality medical, dental and behavioral health services in our clinic. Through the Caridad de San Antonio Agency, we provide adult day services, home care, and personal care.

About the Community

The Mora Valley is an isolated mountain valley in north-central New Mexico on the eastern slope of the Sangre de Cristo (Rocky) Mountains, and is located east of Taos and northwest of Las Vegas. Today, the population is over 80% Hispanic. Most have lived in Mora for generations. Many of those admirable traits of the early settlers are still predominant in the residents today.

COMMUNITY - Selected Statistics: Population in Mora County (2010 Census): 4,866; 2.5 persons per square mile, qualifying Mora as a "frontier" county; 81% Hispanic; 19% white non-Hispanic and 1% Other. Education (US Census Bureau): high school graduates 83.9%; BA and higher, 18.3%. Poverty level (US Census Bureau): Below 100% = 13.5%; Below 200% = 42%. Insurance (US Census Bureau): In 2007, 24% of the population was uninsured; 19.5% Medicare. Language(US Census Bureau): other than English spoken in the home 61% (Primarily Spanish).
