About the Community
BEND offers the very best in year-round outdoor life and recreation and is a favorite vacation destination for many. Mt. Bachelor, 20 minutes from downtown Bend, is the only destination ski resort in the state of Oregon and there are numerous cross country trails and snow mobile parks. Summer sports include hiking, climbing at Smith Rock, fishing (lake and river), mountain biking, river sports, and two dozen golf courses are within a thirty mile radius. The public school system is strong and there are private school options at all grade levels. A strong community college is in place, and Oregon State University has just launched the Cascade Campus, a full four-year university. A regional airport in nearby Redmond provides daily shuttles to Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Denver.
EUGENE is situated in the glorious Willamette Valley. Home to the University of Oregon, it has all the amenities and charm of a major university town.
PENDLETON is one of the largest towns in Eastern Oregon. Settlers passed through here when traveling the Oregon Trail in the mid-1800s, so the area is ripe with history of the Old West. Rodeo fans will enjoy the nationally famous Roundup. Eastern Oregon is also paradise for anglers and hunters of deer and elk.
LA GRANDE's name comes from an early French settler who used the term la grande to describe the areas beauty. Settlers passed through here when traveling the Oregon Trail in the mid-1800s. Eastern Oregon is paradise for anglers and hunters. Downhill skiing is available at nearby Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort. La Grande is also a college town and home to Eastern Oregon State University.
