Sanford Children's Specialty Group and the Department of Pediatrics Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota are seeking a clinical geneticist with primary pediatric training to join an expanding genetics practice. There are currently two clinical geneticists, a clinical cytogeneticist, multiple molecular geneticists and genetic counselors. Research opportunities are available depending on the background and interests of the successful candidate. The Sanford Clinic USD Genetics Lab provides comprehensive cytogenetic services and also offers an array comparative genomic hybridization.

Sanford Childrens is a group of 60+ pediatric sub-specialists with most pediatric subspecialists represented. Our Sanford Pediatric Residency Program started in July 2011 with its inaugural class of six. A Genetic Counseling Program started in 2016 with a joint effort between Sanford Health and Augustana University.

Sanford Childrens Hospital, a free standing 146 bed facility dedicated to caring for children, opened in March 2009. Sanford Childrens Hospital is the flagship pediatric provider for Sanford Health, receiving a gift of $400 million from well-known philanthropist, T. Denny Sanford in 2007. A significant portion of these funds are earmarked for pediatric program development to enhance Sanfords mission of clinical service, education, and research. An additional $125 million was given in 2014 for the IMagenetics Initiative.

SANFORD IMAGENETICS: Sanford Health has a strong commitment to genetics in medicine. The Sanford Imagenetics Initiative is a comprehensive new program that fully integrates genetics into the clinic setting with the goal of improved awareness and recognition of genetic conditions. This first-of-its-kind innovative model to incorporating genetics into the primary care setting has led to the expansion of its genetic counseling program, development of state of the art cytogenetic and molecular laboratories and bioinformatics capabilities. There are currently no organizations that similarly embed genetics health care professionals into a primary care practice.
