The Medical Director, Institute of Health Equity (AIHE) is under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer. The work of the Institute is to study the wide array of health and social problems disproportionately impacting racial and ethnic groups in clinical outcomes. This role will develop vision and strategies for the AIHE. Key in providing guidance to improve targeted interventions and modifications to health care systems that will promote health equity for the communities served by AltaMed. Includes creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture to foster and encourage innovation in applied health services research and implementation. Responsible for the overall monitoring of the Institute's budgetary matters, including the Institute's general operational fund, and any categorical, auxiliary or grant funding. Responsible to seek and maximize state funding and other alternative revenue streams wherever possible to support assigned programs and services within the institute, and accountable for the sustainability and profitability of the Institute's programs and services.



Responsibilities

1. Provide the AIHE with guidance on strategies for implementing or adapting processes for integrating research and learning into an organizational culture and care delivery system, and have the skills and ability to manage multiple research and innovation projects simultaneously

Advise AIHE on methods for assessing current organizational culture and values (including leadership views) related to the role of research

and learning in care delivery (i.e., "assess current culture")

Advise AIHE in methods and strategies in applied research for closing these gaps through activities designed to strengthen organizational

support for innovation, improvement and high performance

Lead and advise on effective and efficient innovations for proposed improvements resulting in systematic and highly integrated

implementation strategies among AltaMeds business lines

Have an understanding of alternative payment methodologies and/or financial modeling.

Develop and define a holistic view of the role research plays in the larger system of AltaMeds business lines.

Facilitate engagement of AIHE with national stakeholders, including national learning networks

Support AIHE in identifying key national stakeholders, including individuals and organizations representing potential sources of input and

guidance, collaboration, support, etc.

Funding

Raise research or implementation science funding annually through his/her own initiative.

Advise on methods to strengthen learning methods within AltaMed through existing professional development and/or training opportunities

(eg. similar to Greenbelt training)

Work with AIHE in identifying training, skill and capacity development needs across key domains (health IT, healthcare operational processes

and systems, evidence-based practice, innovation, evaluation and analysis, leadership, implementation and improvement, etc.) and in i

identifying available professional development and training resources

2. Facilitate connections between AIHE/AltaMed and researchers, including both academic and non-academic institutions (eg., Kaiser) who have interests and projects that align with AltaMed.

Advise on role and structure of an advisory board for the AIHE, as well as potential members of the advisory board.

3. Funding

Qualifications

Certified Medical License coupled with a minimum of 10 years experience in a health clinic setting and/or a community health center setting working with the underserved populations.

Demonstrated experience as a visionary leader having fostered innovation and community engagement within a social justice framework.

Experience with promoting leading edge research, in applied healthcare science, including collaborative and community participatory research.
