Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH), a MaineHealth member, is seeking a BC/BE Addiction Psychiatrist for a full time Medical Director opportunity in Portland, Maine.

The Medical Director of Addiction Services (MDAS) for Maine Behavioral Healthcare reports to the Sr. Vice President for Medical and Clinical Affairs (SVPM&CA) who also serves as Chief of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center (MMC). The MDAS is responsible for the oversight and development of a Substance Use Disorders Service for MBH and the Behavioral Health Service Line for MaineHealth. The responsibilities include development and oversight of the clinical programs and practices, academic programs including graduate and undergraduate medical education (GME, UME) programs, research and quality improvement efforts.

The enhancement of education programs will include an Addiction Medicine Fellowship, residing at MMC, and learning opportunities for residents from several MMC GME programs (Psychiatry, Medicine, Family Practice, and Emergency Medicine) and Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) medical students. Further, it is expected that the MDAS will, in partnership with the Center for Psychiatric Research, develop an addiction research program.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare is Northern New England's leading integrated behavioral healthcare system. It serves predominantly southern, western, central and Mid-Coast Maine, and is composed of southern Maine's only nonprofit psychiatric hospital, outpatient treatment, crisis services, Crisis Stabilization units, as well as 5 ACT teams. Additionally, MBH is developing comprehensive system-wide substance use disorder services, including services for opiate and alcohol addictions, for individuals from the region. This initiative is in conjunction with MBH's role as the lead agent for the development of a comprehensive behavioral health service line for all of MaineHealth. This fully integrated and growing system of behavioral healthcare makes it a regional and national model for treating people with serious mental health issues. MBH's 30-plus clinical programs and nearly 30 service locations is one of the broadest behavioral healthcare programs in the state.
