CARDIOTHORACIC FELLOW/JUNIOR ATTENDING

Explore a 12-month opportunity to work as a junior attending physician and gain additional skills, knowledge and experience in trans catheter valve replacement (both TAVR and MIMV), advanced aortic surgery and general cardiac surgery including transplantation. Candidates must have previous training in cardiac surgery. As a junior attending physician you will work at our largest quaternary care facility, Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center, joining a comprehensive team of respected, experienced specialists in a highly diverse and successful program.

Education, training and experience required:
* BC/BE in general and cardiothoracic surgery
* Fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery
* Skilled in all areas of cardiac surgery including aortic aneurysms, endovascular, coronary artery bypass and transplantation.

Responsibilities:
* Performing all aspects of cardiac surgical procedures and or first assisting under the direct supervision of a staff surgeon for the purposes of training
* Operating independently in non-critical portions of cardiac surgical operations with staff surgeon available but not physically present.
* Independent operative ability as primary surgeon for certain selected noncomplex procedures such as mediastinal exploration for bleeding, groin dissection for exposure of femoral vessels, emergent initiation of ECMO as a lifesaving maneuver, procurement, and chest closures/sternal debridement.
* Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care of cardiac surgical patients including seeing new consult and follow up patients in clinic and management of postoperative patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit or on the surgical floor.
* Supervising and teaching advanced practice providers including our cardiothoracic NPs and PAs
* Academic scholarship in the form of publications and or national or regional presentations related to trans catheter valve replacement and aortic surgery.
* Other duties not specifically mentioned but deemed appropriate for educational purposes and training by the surgical staff.
* This is a premier cardiac program with an Aortic Surgery Program and outstanding breadth of cases
