Vice Chair - Research and Scholarship, Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine at West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine in Morgantown, WV is currently seeking a visionary and highly motivated Vice-Chair for Research and Scholarship.

The Vice-Chair, who will report directly to the Chair of Emergency Medicine (EM), will be responsible for all scholarly and research programs involving faculty, fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and students within the Department. The Vice-Chair will also be charged with expansion of the Departments investigative research and extramural funding portfolios.

Successful applicants to this position will possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D. as well as the qualifications to be appointed as Associate Professor or Professor on a tenure-earning track. Preference will be given to candidates possessing an active, portable portfolio of extramural funding. WVU Emergency Medicine is in search of someone with outstanding leadership and administrative skills, creativity, and resourcefulness. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated track record of conducting independent, investigative research, publishing in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, writing competitive grants, and in garnering extramural funding.

Again, the Department is looking to expand its research and scholarly footprints. As such, the Vice-Chair must possess a vision and be able to execute a plan for growth of this departmental mission. Given this, the Vice-Chair will have to actively engage and inspirethrough mentorship and coachingfaculty, fellow, resident, advanced practice provider, and student involvement in research and scholarship.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at WVU maintains a thriving clinical practiceincluding West Virginia University Hospitals/Ruby Memorial Hospital (~650-bed, level 1 trauma and tertiary-care referral center), United Hospital Center, St. Joseph's Hospital, two WVU Urgent Care centers, WVU Student Health, WVU International Travel Clinic, and an internal locum tenens practice. Across this myriad of EM practices, our faculty, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers care for more than 181,000 patients per year.

Our Department is home to a competitive residency program of nearly 30 residentsattracting top-notch housestaff from medical schools across the country. We also offer a state-of-the-art emergency ultrasound fellowship programagain attracting some of the brightest and most skilled young emergency physicians from around the country.

The nearly 60 faculty members, 1 fellow, 30 residents, and 30 advanced practice providers in the Department are engagedlargely through our EM Clinical Research Centerin a host of extramurally-funded, investigative research projects. Departmental research in the areas of stroke, emergency medical systems (EMS), medical education, point-of-care ultrasound, and others has culminated in important, original contributions to the peer-reviewed medical literature.
