Lewiston, a city steeped in history, traces its beginnings to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Located in north central Idaho, the famed explorer team came to the convergence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers, which are now the site of twin cities Lewiston, Idaho, and Clarkston, Washington.
Lewiston has a distinct Old West feel and a uniquely dry, temperate climate, which makes it ideal for year-round recreational activities, both on land or in the water. Whitewater rafting, kayaking, swimming, fishing, tubing, canoeing and boating opportunities are plentiful. There is also an abundance of locations to golf, camp, hike, jog and bicycle. Hells Canyon, the deepest canyon in North America, is located in Lewiston.
Along with serving as a recreation destination, Lewiston is the primary regional transportation, retail, health care, and entertainment center of the surrounding area. Agriculture, forest products, and light manufacturing are the economic mainstays of the area.
Strong economic growth, low crime, and a pleasant climate help signify Lewiston as a great place to live.
