South Carolina General Surgery Opportunity

Providence Hospital located in Columbia, South Carolina is seeking a general surgeon to join the medical staff. The surgeons are employed by the medical center and are seeking a productive general surgeon to join their team. A highly competitive financial package will be offered to the right provider. About the Hospital

Providence Hospital has two campus locations. Providence Hospital's main campus is located in the heart of downtown Columbia on the corner of Forest Drive. The 258-bed hospital was founded in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine to minister to the community, in body, mind and spirit. The facility is best known its expertise in cardiac care and serves as a nationally-recognized referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The facility has been recognized 17 reporting periods in a row with the top rating by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.

Located near Highway 77 in Northeast Columbia, Providence Orthopedic Hospital is a 75-bed fully-functioning orthopedic specialty hospital. Since its recent renovation, the hospital has earned recognition as an Aetna Institute of Quality Orthopedic Care Facility for total joint replacement surgery as well as BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina's Blue Distinction accolade.

The Community

Founded in 1786, Columbia is known for the three rivers that converge in the city, the Saluda, the Broad and the Congaree. The Columbia metropolitan area includes both Lexington and Richland counties. The area is also home to Fort Jackson, the largest and most active Initial Entry Training Center in the United States Army. There are multiple colleges and universities in the city including the University of South Carolina, Columbia College, and Benedict College. These institutions provide a robust environment of learning and culture.

Recreation

Columbia has a number of parks including Finlay Park, Memorial Park, Granby Park, Sesquentennial State Park, Three Rivers Greenway, Riverfront Park near the Columbia Canal and the Congaree National Park. Residents and visitors enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming, running and bike riding in these areas. The city is home to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Residents enjoy football games at Williams Brice Stadium, basketball games at Colonial Life Arena and Carolina Coliseum, and watch the National championship baseball team play in Carolina Stadium. The City recently broke ground on Spirit Communications Park which will be home to a Minor League baseball team. For those who want to engage in cultural events the Koger Center for the Arts offers a number of performing arts events. In addition, because Columbia is centrally located in the state, there are a number of day trip activities from the beach to the mountains that families can enjoy.
