The Chief of Physical Medical and Rehabilitation serves as supervisor for clinical services and staff within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation section. The section includes inpatient rehabilitation and therapy, amputation prevention, pain management services and integrative health solutions and Audiology. The Physician is a Board Certified/eligible Physiatrist physician (either MD or DO) with AMA OR AOA approved residency training in PM&R. The selectee is responsible for program oversight, supervision of staff, strategic planning, organizational execution and effectively coordinating the policies and activities related to the physical rehabilitation and treatment of patients at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center. Duties include approximately 40% administrative and 60% direct patient care. Additional duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:



Serves as advisor to the Chief of Staff on matters relating to pain management, cognitive rehabilitation, and overall functional improvement of patients.


Reviews and analyzes rehabilitation work methods and operational procedures and recommend changes based on findings.


Assists in determining the need for improvements and new initiatives in clinical care and research.


Performs a wide range of medical duties covering rehabilitation medicine; examines and assesses patients, develops and manages a comprehensive and rehabilitation program.


Serves as a subject matter expert for consultation on medical management of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other associated types of care.


Plans work, set priorities and prepares schedules for the completion of work by subordinates.


Evaluates performance, provides advice, counsel, or instruction to individual employees concerning work and administrative matters.


Interacts effective and cooperatively with individuals both inside and outside of the organization.


Advises management and staff in the interpretation and application of administrative procedures.


Provides instructions and assistance on applicable procedures and administrative policies to service chiefs, managers, and administrative staff at the medical center and outlying facilities.
