Hartford Hospital is an 867-bed Level 1 Trauma Center & regional referral center that provides high-quality care in all clinical disciplines. The Hartford Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute is the regions premier cardiovascular program providing a wide range of surgical and endovascular procedures for our patients.
The Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a dynamic and dedicated operating room Physician Assistant to join the busy and growing Department of Cardiac Surgery.
Under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon, the physician assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties. These duties include, but are not limited to: first assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures, endoscopic vessel harvesting, preoperative history and physical examination, postoperative care in an outpatient clinical setting and patient education.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery and be skilled in the care of pre, intra and postoperative cardiovascular surgical patients. Prior first assistant experience, including endoscopic vein harvesting skills is preferred. The right new graduate would be considered for the position.
Applicants must be able to interact positively with medical/nursing staff and other members of the cardiovascular team as well as with patients and their families. Candidates must possess sufficient emotional intelligence to work collaboratively in a fast paced, high-acuity environment where quality and caring come first. The ability to work on a busy 24/7 365 service, that includes periodic weekend and night call is also needed.
