In 2011 the Childrens Museum was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Science. It was the first such award won by any museum in Wisconsin.

Residents also enjoy an endless variety of music, dance, theater, visual and literary arts, including five museums exhibiting art, history, and science collections. The Overture Center in downtown Madison is a beautiful facility that offers a wide variety of entertainment, including the Madison Symphony, Madison Opera, and visiting performances.
