Physician Assistant (Trauma Surgery) - GCMC(Job Id 27474)

To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, diagnostics and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services through the more effective use of his/her knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the surgeon. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.



Additionally, the physician assistant will act as the patient advocate in the medical care systems serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients and physician.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Assisting surgeon in preoperative care and workup of patients

-confirm operating schedule, availability of blood and summarize appropriate data prior to surgery

-assist supervising physician in surgical critical care, clinic and in the OR

-participate in postoperative patient care

-perform therapeutic procedures as directly by surgeon-computer skills/research data

-Supervise rotating PA students





Skills also include work effectively in a team environment, dealing directly with patients in ways to instill confidence and facilitate communication, and showing concern for health and well-being of others.

WORKING CONDITIONS:



Clinical: Inpatient/Outpatient/OR

Travel as indicated

Participation in the holiday/weekend/call schedule as indicated



The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure.
