Outstanding opportunity for a physician that is BC/BE in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine to provide excellent and patient-centered medical care to Observation Unit patients by assuring completion of history and physical examination, admission orders and disposition of each patient. This will be accomplished by participating in daily patient rounds. The ideal candidate will participate in and support changes in Observation Unit patient flow and space utilization which are designed to increase Observation Unit efficiency and safety, and significantly reduce the patient Observation Unit length of stay. Physician will work closely with the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Medicine to assure appropriate patient placement and timely patient flow. Rochester General Hospital has a state-of-the-art Observation and Clinical Decision Unit.

The primary mission of the Medical Observation Unit (MOU)/Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is to decompress the Emergency Department and assist with patient flow. Rochester General Health System's Emergency Department has an annual volume of 124,000 patients and growing, emergency ultrasound services, a 17 bed Observation Unit and a 19 bed Clinical Decision Unit. This mission is accomplished by admitting observation patients to the MOU and CDU and by assisting with patient selection for appropriate inpatients to be moved to the CDU. Patients will be selected by using the exclusion criteria that have been established for each unit.
