San Mateo Medical Center is a highly-regarded system of health care that includes a comprehensive acute care hospital and regional satellite clinics in San Mateo County, California. Our pediatric clinics provide services primarily for non-insured and under-insured children in San Mateo County. In addition, children are served in our Emergency Department at San Mateo Medical Center, where there are also a small number of pediatric inpatient beds. We also have a close working relationship with Stanford/Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital and other nearby institutions.

The San Mateo Medical Center Child and Adolescent Clinic is located in the outpatient wing of the main campus/ hospital building in San Mateo. Our clinic provides comprehensive primary medical care to children, from birth through adolescence in a hospital-based setting that is culturally sensitive to the needs of our families. Responsibilities include outpatient clinic, panel management (based on 2.25 PATIENTS PER CLINIC HOUR), urgent care clinic, inpatient / ED coverage and specialty clinic duties as requested. There is a designated 15% administrative time for clinical care, plus additional time for inpatient responsibilities and projects. This does not include meeting time (Primary Care Department, Pediatric Subcommittee, Floor Meeting, Provider meeting) and required trainings.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a diverse and underserved patient population. Additionally the incumbent will have experience with electronic medical record systems. Spanish speaking preferred. Must also be able to work some evenings and Saturdays.

On-Call Coverage

Pediatricians are on-call for the San Mateo Medical Center after hours. Call, while voluntary, is recommended twice a month for emergency room consultation and inpatient care (no nursery responsibilities) and carries its own additional compensation. Compensation is based on a fixed hourly on-call with pager rate, plus additional payment for actual services rendered.
