Kosair Childrens Hospital Orthopaedic Care and Childrens Orthopaedics of Louisville, a practice group within Norton Medical Group, is offering a fellowship opportunity to a qualified candidate. This is a one-year fellowship for a final-year pediatric (or related field) resident to evaluate and manage pediatric orthopaedic patients who may not require surgical intervention. This fellowship includes training through Kosair Childrens Hospital and Childrens Orthopaedics of Louisville, who have an established educational training platform for University of Louisville orthopaedic surgery residents and family medicine/sportsmedicine fellows.

About the position

The position is an employed fellowship with Norton Medical Group.
Training takes place entirely in a pediatric environment, consisting of an office setting, outreach clinics, Kosair Childrens Hospital and Kosair Childrens Medical Center Brownsboro.
Fellowship provides didactic interaction, support for clinical research and training in clinical management of pediatric orthopaedic conditions, pediatric fracture reduction, hospital consultative services and inpatient management.
The fellow will gain experience with common (e.g., cerebral palsy, myelodysplasia), uncommon (e.g., arthrogryposis, cloacal exstrophy) and rare (e.g., multiple pterygium syndrome, Leigh syndrome) anomalies in addition to the typical cases of trauma, gait abnormalities and musculoskeletal pain.
The fellow will work together with other pediatric subspecialists with interests in neuromuscular conditions, sports health, scoliosis, bone fragility and foot deformities.
In the hospital environment, the fellow will gain inpatient consultative service experience and learn pediatric fracture reduction and emergent orthopaedic patient management, including call coverage with an orthopaedic surgery resident.
The fellow will attend weekly pediatric orthopaedic conferences and didactic lectures, presenting at least one lecture per quarter on varying topics.
The fellow will be required to participate in at least one research project. Even if the project is not completed during the tenure, the fellow must submit the abstract to a national meeting and present a paper summarizing the findings. The fellow should plan to continue efforts to take the project to publication.
The fellow will be required to attend at least one general pediatric orthopaedic conference and one specialty conference.g
Upon completion, the fellow will be able to provide ongoing educational training for residents in primary care and orthopaedic fields.

Requirements for this position

The candidate must have completed, be in the final year or be scheduled to finish primary care residency (pediatric or related field) in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited institution.
Residency training must be completed prior to the fellowship start date of July 1.
The candidate must hold or be eligible to apply for an unrestricted medical license in Kentucky. Licensure and privilege procurement will be facilitated by Norton Healthcare.
