Demographic Attributes of Neurology Residents

In 2006, the majority of neurology residents were male, as the table below shows. Female residents accounted for about 43% of the population.1 This is in contrast to the gender distribution among practicing neurologists - in 2006, almost 75% of neurologists were men and about 25% were female.2

In a 2007 report, the physician recruitment firm, Merritt Hawkins and Associates, reported that the average base salary offer for a neurologist in 2006-7 was $234,000. This represents about a 10% increase from 2005-6, when the average base salary offer was $210,000. The full breakdown is below:
